JAY D. HULL

Jay D. Hull is a recognized leader in legal innovation and change management. His focus is on deploying people, processes, and technologies that help his clients work more efficiently, at less cost, and with greater impact.

Jay most recently served as Chief Innovation Partner for Davis Wright Tremaine and was the founding partner and leader of the firm’s innovation initiative, DWT De Novo. Under Jay’s leadership, Davis Wright Tremain was named, “Innovative Law Firm of the Year” by the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) an unprecedented two times in a row in 2015 and 2016.

Having served as in-house counsel for many years, Jay understands the pressures faced by in-house legal teams. It’s with this understanding and his many years practicing as a business transactions lawyer in the technology field that Jay looks for creative solutions to clients’ business and legal challenges.

As an attorney, Jay has negotiated deals worth more than $5 billion in recent years, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and commercial agreements, with particular focus on telecommunication and technology transactions.

‘We are constantly in an adversarial state’

On Sunday, the Times published a harrowing account of a Silicon Valley attorney who dies of a bacterial infection connected to intravenous drug use. The article, which is titled “The Lawyer, The Addict” and unfolds as a first person narrative written by the attorney’s ex-wife, is a compelling and tragic read.

It is also an indictment of the high stress, antagonistic culture that defines many corporate law practices.
